Editorial Policy

This page describes how articles on Mother Earth Coffee and Gifts are planned, written, checked and kept up to date. It is the practical companion to The Pantry Shelf Team: where that page explains our values, this one explains the routine.

Who writes here

Our articles are written by a small team using pen names: Isadora, Leopold, Zelda and Briony. We do not claim professional qualifications, and we do not present ourselves as doctors, lawyers, financial advisers or engineers. When a subject needs that kind of expertise, the article says so and suggests talking to someone qualified.

Choosing topics

Ideas come from reader questions, from our own everyday problems and from looking at what people search for. A topic makes the list when we can explain it clearly and when the answer would actually help someone. Recent examples include our guides to wrapping a gift neatly and making a vision board.

Research

  • We start from primary information wherever possible: official help pages, product documentation, published rules and guidance from public bodies.
  • For practical guides, we try the steps ourselves when we can do so safely at home.
  • We compare several sources and note where they disagree.
  • We do not invent statistics, studies, quotes, reviews or experts. If we cannot support a claim, it stays out of the article.

Writing

We write in plain language, explain jargon on first use and put practical steps in clear lists or tables. Articles focus on what a reader can understand or do, not on filling space. Headlines describe what the article delivers rather than teasing it.

Checking

Every piece is read by a second member of the team before publication. Briony usually takes that role, reading as a newcomer would and checking that each claim matches its source, that steps are in a sensible order and that nothing sounds more certain than it should.

Sensitive subjects

  • Health: general information only, written cautiously, with a reminder to seek professional advice for personal concerns.
  • Money, insurance and law: we explain how things generally work and point out that rules vary by country and situation.
  • Viewing and streaming: we write about licensed services and lawful ways to watch.
  • Safety: where a guide involves heat, tools, driving or electrical equipment, we include sensible precautions.

Products and services

When we mention a product, service or company, we describe what it does and the trade-offs we can identify. We avoid declaring something "the best" without a clear basis, and we do not publish invented reviews or testimonials.

Images

Pictures on the site come from licensed stock libraries and are chosen to illustrate the subject. They are not photographs of our team, and they do not show products we have personally tested unless the article says so.

Updates and corrections

Articles are reviewed as subjects change, and confirmed errors are corrected, with a note when the change matters. The full process is on When We Get It Wrong. Questions about this policy are welcome via Say Hello.

At a glance

How this magazine works

The short version of what goes on behind each article.

  • Every piece is read by a second team member before it is published.

  • We write under pen names and claim no professional titles.

  • Practical steps go in lists and tables so they are easy to follow.

  • Health, legal and money topics stay general and point readers to qualified help.

  • Articles about viewing at home focus on licensed services.

  • Confirmed mistakes are corrected, with a note when the meaning changed.

From the four of us

Why we keep our rules on show

Readers trust a guide when they can see how it was made. Writing our working rules down keeps us honest on busy weeks, when the temptation to rush a piece is strongest.

If you ever catch an article falling short of these rules, tell us. A sharp-eyed reader is the best fact-checker a small team can have.
