Air Frying: The Vegetable Game Changer

04 February 2021

What have most of us struggle with since our childhood? If you answered, eating enough vegetables, you would be correct. No matter what we were taught in school and how many times we’ve seen the food pyramid, the fats and oils generally win us over when it comes to eating. The thing is, how do you eat more vegetables when they are never really portrayed as the main character on the dish? The meat is always the main piece. We’re never going to eat enough vegetables if we don’t make it the star of the dishes we eat. Our solution: The air fryer!!!

The new way to Veggie

Yes, the air fryer can be used to cook a plethora of things but it is truly about to change your vegetable game. Back in the day, to prepare vegetables we’d pop open a can and heat through. Now, we have so many more options. Everything tastes better fried right? The air fryer uses minimal to no oil so you can enjoy the deliciousness that is fried vegetables without the guilt.

Let’s take brussel sprouts for example. Whether you use fresh or frozen. You first would boil them for about ten minutes. After ten minutes, drain the brussel sprouts and then toss them in a bowl with a teaspoon of oil, garlic powder and parmesan cheese. In your air fryer, set the temperature to 350 degrees F, and in ten minutes you’ll have delicious brussel sprouts that rival french fries.

Your New French Fry Game

Speaking of french fries, who said that fries had to be made out of regular potatoes. With the air fryer, you have the world of root vegetables you can turn into fries. You can take things like sweet potatoes, turnips, beets, and carrots and turn them into fries. You can cut them however you want your fries, toss them in minimal oil and you’ve got tasty fries that are way healthier than your average french fries.

Piece de resistance: Cauliflower

Another game changer with the air fryer, buffalo cauliflower. If you have never experienced buffalo cauliflower, I suggest you try it. Cauliflower has been showing its amazing versatility lately and Buffalo Cauliflower is no different. We’re making rice and pizza crusts out of cauliflower and now we can use it to replace chicken wings. You take a head of cauliflower and cut it into wing sized pieces. After you do that you’re going to want to prepare your flour mixture. You can season that however you would season your chicken wings. You can use garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper… the possibilities are endless, although it is definitely recommended you season the flour mixture. Now dip your cauliflower in milk or whatever dairy free milk you use and then through the flour mixture. You can then cook the cauliflower at 400 degrees F for about seven minutes. After they come out of the air fryer you can shake the “wings” up in whatever Buffalo sauce mixture you have on hand. There are plenty you can buy from the store or you can make your own.

Increase your vegetable intake and take your veggie game to the next level. An air fryer is the game changer for your kitchen – there’s this great post to read if you want to learn more about air fryers and get some buying recommendation.
